'Telling Lies during war-time'
Barony Castle Hotel, Eddleston - Sunday 24th November until Thursday 28th November 2019
Fake news is nothing new and was used to great effect during Worl War Two. Following on from the success of his two books on the subject, Ian has produced an enthralling film and lecture course which explodes many of these myths and reveals how both sides used the press and the cinema for propaganda.
' The Art of Mixing Fact and Fiction -
Film and Media Propaganda during World War Two'
Green Park Hotel, Pitlochry - Sunday 16th February until the morning of Thursday 20st February 2020.
During World War Two, those involved in producing films and newsreel became adept at manipulating facts and events for propaganda. Drawing on much of the research from his books and film classes, this year’s break will mix fact and fiction in several compelling ways.
Each year, Ian runs a six-week film course at the Filmhouse in Edinburgh on a variety of topics related to War Film Propaganda.
The title of the next course is 'Playing Fast and Loose with Wartime History'. It will take place on Tuesday afternoons from 21st April to 26th May 2020 and repeated on Thursday evenings from 23rd April to the 28th May 2020.
Ian's second Book, "Battling with the Truth" was published in July 2016. The book launch took place in Blackwell's Book Shop in Edinburgh. Ian also gave a talk about "Battling with the Truth" to a packed audience at the 2016 Edinburgh Book Festival. The session was hosted by Brian Taylor, BBC Scotland's Political Editor.
The book is a follow up to 'The Third Reich's Celluloid War' originally published in 2012 and which has been republished in paperback.
